Low value imported goods are defined as the sale of goods to Australian consumers and shipped from outside Australia at the amount of $1,000 ex. GST or less.
As of 1 July 2018, Australia has changed the GST ruling in regards to the sale of low value imported goods defined above. Goods that were previously exempt from GST under the 'low-value import threshold' does no longer apply.
Although GST needs to be collected on all imported goods, the treatment for the sale of goods that are $1,000 or less is different to the treatment for the sale of goods over $1,000 is different.
Low value Imported goods ($1,000 or less)
10% GST needs to be collected at the point of sale. MyDeal will then need to remit it to the Australian Taxation Office.
Goods over $1,000
The existing arrangement for the sale of imported goods over $1,000 does not change. 10% GST will be collected at the border as a part of customer's duties and taxes duty for this imported purchase.
